Amazon SQS
Managed message queue. As an on-failure destination it holds the events a function could not process, so a failure becomes an inspectable message rather than a line in a log that scrolls away.

Maximum message size is 1,048,576 bytes (1 MiB); larger payloads require the Extended Client Library, which stores the body in S3 and passes a reference
Messages are retained for 4 days by default, configurable from 60 seconds to 1,209,600 seconds (14 days)
Default visibility timeout is 30 seconds, with a maximum of 12 hours
A message can carry up to 10 metadata attributes, and a single batch request can include at most 10 messages
FIFO queues are not supported as an S3 event notification destination or as a Lambda on-failure destination; only standard queues are

Per request, where each 64 KB chunk of a payload bills as one request — a 1 MiB message therefore bills as 16 requests, not one. The first 1 million requests each month are free, so a dead-letter queue on a low-failure pipeline usually costs nothing at all.
